Snack-ing

In Mexico, the food culture created one of the highest obesity rates among the world. Second behind the United States of America.

In 2017, 33% of the Mexican population was obese and 70% was considered overweight. This country is a mirror of this century main disease, with important social and public health challenges, but also with a dangerous environmental issue.

Linked to a nutritional transition, obesity is a pernicious consequence of industrialisation, urbanisation and globalisation but also economic and sociocultural standards. In the long-term, obesity has a serious impact on living conditions and health, such as diabetes, cardiovascular or respiratory disease, which are the main causes of death in the country.
